Will a Dental Crown in Warren, MN Take a Long Time?
November 23, 2016
Teeth marred by excessive decay or oral injury are renewed with Warren, MN CEREC crowns. Custom-made by Dr. Jaclyn Jensen and Dr. Tiara Applequist, CEREC crowns restore teeth to full function and aesthetics without multiple dental visits, nuisance temporaries or gooey oral impressions. Smiles change in just about an hour.
One-visit CEREC
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The dentists at Renu Dental use this restorative dental service to rebuild teeth marred by decay, severe injury, malformation, root canal therapy or multiple dental fillings.
Creating complete or partial crowns (inlays or onlays) and porcelain veneers, CEREC imaging, design software and chairside milling render realistic prosthetics in just about an hour. There’s no need for awkward temporaries or extra appointments to try on and refit restorations. A patient comes to Renu Dental and leaves with his or her crown permanently bonded in place.
The CEREC Process
After a complete oral examination, digital X-rays and other imaging to determine if a patient may receive a crown, Dr. Applequist or Dr. Jensen removes damaged enamel and filling material from the tooth. She uses a small, intraoral camera to image the prepared tooth and creates a three-dimensional image.
This image is called an oral impression and it takes the place of old-style models formed with impression putty and trays. The dentist uses the impression to design a crown with the right fit, size and shape for the patient’s mouth.
Next, the CEREC milling apparatus takes the dentist’s information and carves the crown out of a solid block of durable and lifelike porcelain. The fabrication process takes about 20 minutes and happens chairside in the treatment room. When complete, the doctor polishes the CEREC crown, carefully fitting and bonding it into place.
CEREC Crowns Look So Natural
Unlike gold or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, same-day crowns from Renu Dental fit exactly right out the milling machine. Little or no bite adjustment is needed, and the color perfectly matches adjacent teeth, making the crown virtually indistinguishable from its natural neighbors. Also, patients like not having to wear temporary crowns or waiting weeks for their restorations to come back from an outside dental lab.
Both professionals and patients alike praise the durability of CEREC crowns. With daily flossing and twice daily brushing, plus six-month exams and cleanings as recommended by the American Dental Association, these restorations stay in place for years without chipping, cracking or coming loose. The dentists also use them to restore today’s superior tooth replacement option, the dental implant.
